Let me be frank. It’s hard being a Finn Balor fan. If you’ve been following him for a while, you know how incredible he is. As a heel, as a demon, or the man who can do incredible things, Balor is a solid worker who always delivers a solid performance.
But ever since he had to relinquish his newly minted Universal Championship after an injury from SummerSlam 2016, it feels as if creative just wants to tease us with title matches, and in turn making my blood pressure go up. Maybe that’s a little dramatic, but you get the idea. It really felt like he’d never hold a title again.
Then finally — after what seemed like 474637 lifetimes — Balor won the Intercontinental Championship in a handicap match against Lio Rush, and now former champ, Bobby Lashley. #FinnBalor used his quickness to his advantage, executed a beautiful Coup de Grace, pinned the most obnoxious hype man in current WWE history, and thus winning the Intercontinental Championship.
This win left me speechless, and even made me cry. But my tears dried very quickly when Lashley turned on his number one fan, slamming him into the mat. I’ve appreciated #BobbyLashley’s character development over the past few months, and he continues to evolve and surprise me. I don’t think WWE will bury him by any means, but for now it’s Balor’s time to shine.
And that, is indeed Too Sweet.
