One Thing The WWE Evolution PPV Overlooked
I am not going to lie. I was highly disappointed by how #WWE handled the first ever ALL FEMALE PPV…
The had some matches that I didn’t feel belonged in the PPV as oppose to the pre-show, which the pre-show for Evolution was non-existent. One of the things I briefly mentioned in another article was the “First Ever Last Woman Standing Match”, my problem as I mention is the fact that it isn’t/wasn’t. Asuka and Nikki Cross have been there and done that last year at NXT – Why are they not getting the credit for it?
Now, I am going to list the matches as they appeared on the #Evolution PPV and then I am going to break down one thing everyone overlooked – The Time…
Trish Stratus & Lita V Mickie James & Alicia Fox:
I am not going to lie; it should NEVER have been a tag team match. Secondly, the minute Bliss was pulled
(Which we broke first here at Rumbling Rumors which you can read HERE) They SHOULD have replaced her with a good contemporary, but, instead we get – Alicia Fox.
I don’t even have the words… Anyways, that match took about 11 minutes.
The Battle Royal:
Naomi, Michelle McCool, Sonya DeVille, Alundra Blayze AKA Madusa, Carmella, Zelina Vega, Kelly Kelly, Tamina, Ember Moon, Lana, Maria Kanellis, Mandy Rose, Molly Holly, Dana Brooke, Nia Jax, Ivory, Asuka, Torrie Wilson and The Iiconics
All in all, you can never really say anything bad about a Royal Rumble (Except for when they bring out someone you know doesn’t have a prayer.) and this was one of them…It took about 17 minutes.
Toni Storm V Io Shirai (Mae Young Classic):
As great a match as this was, it didn’t belong in the main show, this is a pre-show match, but, somehow Triple H thought it’d be good on the main stage, go figure…9 minutes.
Bayley, Sasha “The Boss” Banks & Natalya V The Riott Squad:
When are they gonna give my squad a solid victory? I am all about the Riott Squad and I don’t care who knows it.
I will admit that at the end, when they were doing some old school moves, (Bayley gave the Macho Man’s Big Elbow Drop, Banks did a Frog Splash ala Latin Heat Eddie Guerrero and Natalya pulled off a double sharp shooter)
I’m not saying they didn’t fight hard, but, come on – Give The Squad Some WINS !
That match took 13 minutes
(NXT) Shanya Baszler V Kairi Sane (C):
I have no idea why this was on the main card – NXT are about to have their very own PPV on November 17,2018 This to me was just some sort of filler. BTW, Shanya is the new champ.
This lasted 12 minutes.
Becky Lynch V Charlotte “The Queen” Flair:
WOW talk about an all-out brawl! I was impressed with Becky, a lot of people said she couldn’t do something like this and she proved them all wrong…Besides, I am not a fan of Charlotte…
BUT, this wasn’t even the main event! This match lasted almost 30 minutes…
(SIDENOTE: – This SHOULD have been the Main Event!)
(Main Event) Nikki Bella V “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (C):
This was the main event…I want you to keep that in mind…to me, I lost interest due to the fact that you’d be hard pressed to follow up Flair and Lynch.
I was curious to see how’d they top, even match it…They did neither.
It was so boring…and this was to be the main event, and it only lasted 15 minutes.
Becky V Flair lasted twice that amount of time and they were NOT billed as the main event, they became it.
There could have been some better matches.
If they had taken Toni Storm V Io Shirai and Shanya Baszler V Kairi Sane OFF of the main card, and added a pre-show, that would have given about 20 minutes for some matches that we wanted to see.
Bayley, Sasha “The Boss” Banks & Natalya V the Riott Squad was a match I really didn’t think needed to be on a PPV – Because I see it every week on RAW…. So, I’m gonna pay extra to see something I see every week for free? Are you high? Again, another pre-show match.
So, that chops off another 13 minutes, taking off about a total of 30 minutes for matches that would have been great…Now onto my second biggest peeve of the night: The Royal Rumble. Yes, I said Rumbles are good, and they are, but, not when they are used as an excuse. What do I mean by that? I mean that way WWE can say, “We put ALL of the ladies on the PPV.”
They dug up some performers who had no business being in the ring at all.
From the minute they announced all of the fighters, I knew Jax was going to win.
There was no surprise, no suspense, etc.
Michelle McCool, Alundra Blayze AKA Madusa, Kelly Kelly, Molly Holly, Ivory and Torrie Wilson had no business being there.
It was like WWE pulled names out of hats to fill the Rumble. Naomi, Sonya DeVille, Carmella, Zelina Vega, Tamina, Ember Moon, Lana, Maria Kanellis, Mandy Rose, Dana Brooke, Nia Jax, Asuka and The Iiconics seemed to me to be the ones who got jipped. They could have taken the Rumble out of the show all together, that would have given them a total of
(roughly) 50 minutes for other matches – matches with outstanding performers like Asuka, Dana Brooke, Ember Moon, etc.
But, they decided to squeeze it all in to one match so they can give lip service to the fans.
And lastly, my BIGGEST peeve of the night:
Why was Beth Phoenix on commentary?
She should have been in the ring showing everyone how it is done! The Glamazon could have taken everyone out and WWE didn’t give her the chance to or she declined the chance. Either way, I was saddened that she was not in the ring.
