Will Braun Strowman Work as a Heel?
It seems that WWE creative has decided to go the route of having Braun Strowman go full heel before his match against #RomanReigns at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view on September 15th.
If he had simply teamed up with #DolphZiggler and Drew McIntyre to attack only Reigns, I would think nothing of it. But Strowman has attacked each member of the Shield, which leads me to believe, in WWE’s eyes, he’s a bad, bad guy. But can Strowman actually work as a heel?
I didn’t watch Raw this past week so I’m not clear what sort of fan reaction #BraunStrowman got during the show.
Regardless of the reaction, if Vince says he’s heel, then I am afraid this man’s push might be coming to an end. To answer the title of the article, I unfortunately believe that Braun Strowman won’t be able to survive and thrive as well as he has as a full-blown heel.
Disappointing Braun Booking
I am very disappointed in how WWE has booked Strowman’s use of the Money in the Bank briefcase. This was the first minor indicator to me that creative might be trying to slow down Strowman’s momentum with the fans.
Coming off a so-so rivalry with Kevin Owens that I will admit had some of the coolest spots we’ve seen in a long time, I guess the #WWE writers felt they needed to change up the Monster Among Men. But why fix something if it ain’t broke?
I have a sneaking suspicion, based on the build up of his cash-in, that Braun Strowman will be unsuccessful inside #HIAC. First of all, if history has taught us anything, announcing your cash-in date has not yielded much success for the previous Money in the Bank briefcase holders.
Second of all, the fact that Strowman has been making Roman look weak the past couple of weeks, if history has taught us anything about THAT, it’s that the Big Dog will overcome the odds when it counts.
Less Of Strowman After Hell In A Cell?
If Strowman loses at Hell in a Cell then I think we might start to see less and less of Strowman in the main event scene. It’s very weird to think that one of Vince McMahon’s creations has gotten super over with the crowd, and now he might just be abandoning it over Roman.
I don’t want to write off Strowman right away, I’m just setting the scene. If Braun loses at Hell in a Cell then it’s clear he will not succeed as a heel. But if he wins, then the sky’s the limit as far as I’m concerned. This will put him even more over with the WWE Universe and show us that Vince and creative do have all the faith in him after all.
Depending on what type of heel Strowman becomes, I think the majority of fans will still be excited when his music hits. They’ve done a very good job at building Braun up to be this unstoppable monster and could become a very effective bad guy. We’ll just have to wait and see how Hell in a Cell plays out. If he wins, then anything is possible. If he loses, then it might be night night for Strowman.
