The Miz & Daniel Bryan – How The Rivalry Went Wrong
Back in 2010, The Miz and Daniel Bryan went face to face at Night of Champions for the United States Championship. At that time, The Miz had been US Champion for 21 days after winning it from R-Truth.
Night of Champions took place on September 19, 2010 and that is where the rivalry truly began.
#DanielBryan took the Championship from The Miz, and a whole new breed of foe was born.
For the past 8 years, it has been back and forth; a fight here, a brawl there and a lot of animosity.
Once Daniel Bryan was declared medically unfit to perform, The Miz took verbal jabs at any chance he could get.
On an episode of “Talking Smack”, which was a show hosted by Renee Young and Daniel Bryan, things truly came to a head between #TheMiz and Bryan. On August 23, 2016 in what is known as the “Coward” promo, The Miz ripped into Bryan like a man possessed.
After using the word “Coward” countless amount of times, while describing Bryan, a very confused Renee Young could all but look on. Frustrated, Bryan walked off the set while The Miz ranted on, with Maryse looking just as confused as Young did.
Daniel Bryan was medically cleared to return on March 20, 2018. And he had ONE target – The Miz.
Brie Bella and Maryse Join The Feud
Things became heated quite quickly, but, there was a new addition to the mix: The Wives.
#Maryse and Brie Bella were the Wives of The Miz and Bryan respectively.
NOW – they got involved. It became a mixed match rivalry of sorts.
Brie, having NO PROBLEM whooping on The Miz, and Maryse avoiding Brie at all costs.
No matter WHO had the idea to involve Brie and Maryse made a grave error.
If they were to construct a separate rivalry between Maryse and Brie, that would have been great and would have been just as interesting. When it comes to the beef that Bryan and The Miz have with each other, that is a different beast.
Why Mix Both Rivalries?
Why combine them? It took everything that was built up over this 8-year period and made it null and void. No matter if it was kayfabe or not between The Miz and Bryan, it was pre-established and bringing them into the mix only seemed to reset it to/from the beginning.
Now, everytime you see Maryse and The Miz in the ring with Brie and Bryan, all you see is Maryse tag and re-tag The Miz so she doesn’t have to fight Brie.
NOW – on the other hand, this could be an excellent opportunity for WWE Creative to open the doors for inter-gender wrestling.
Man fighting Woman and vice versa. But with WWE Creative’s track record, this will not be the case.
So, in closing, let them have their separate fights, don’t combine them because watching Maryse tag and re-tag over and over again gets really boring, really fast.
