Why WWE Evolution is a Mistake
Recently on the July 23 edition of RAW, Stephanie McMahon announced the WWE’s intention of an all-female pay-per-view.
Evolution will take place in October of 2018.
And it is a mistake due to four distinct reasons.
Firstly, the roster. If you do not include the Women of #NXT and Live 205, the roster of Women on RAW and Smackdown comes to roughly, 25-30 Women wrestlers.
That, by itself is only HALF of the Male roster of RAW.
WWE stated on their website that:
“Every woman on the roster will be on hand, including #RondaRousey, Charlotte Flair, #AlexaBliss, Sasha Banks, Carmella, Nia Jax and Asuka, as well as WWE Hall of Famers and Legends Trish Stratus, Lita and many more.”
As of writing this, Trish and #Lita are both confirmed and Gail Kim has declined.
Mickie James is hoping to get in the ring with #TrishStratus once more, but, no word on if a match is set.
Secondly, in an interview with Sky Sports, #StephanieMcMahon commented on the (distant) future of the Women’s tag team belts.
“Not quite yet but that’s absolutely something we’ve heard loud and clear from our fan base and it’s something we’re keen on implementing as soon as we are able to.”
WHAT? “as soon as we are able to” All you have to do is get them made…You are going to have a PPV with all the bells and whistles, EXCEPT you won’t have any tag team belts? Yeah, you can have a tag team ‘event’, but, do those really have as much of an impact as belts do when they are thrown into the mix?
We Women Need More Divisions
The Women’s division is clearly missing some of the belts that they need that the Men’s division already has:
Tag team Championship belts, Intercontinental Championship Belt and the #UniversalChampionship belt.
Because let’s face it, part of the splendor of a pay per view is watching the Champion take on a worthy contender go at it. “Who is going to be the new (Insert Championship Here)”
No one HAS to pay BIG MONEY to see Alexa Bliss take on Ronda Rousey at a PPV when they can watch the same match from their own living room for free…Or Becky Lynch go after Carmella for the same reasons.
THOSE ARE THE ONLY BELTS IN THE WOMEN’S DIVISION !
At an average PPV, you have the Raw Men and Women’s belts, the Smackdown Men and Women’s belts, the #Raw and #Smackdown Tag Team Championship belts, the Intercontinental Championship Belt, the United States Championship belt and (Sometimes) the Universal Championship belt.
So, that is an average of 9 titles on an average PPV to the 2 titles that will be on the line at Evolution.
Where are the other 7 titles and why doesn’t the Women’s division have them yet?
He brings up some wonderful points about how it may or may not be able to deliver.
One of the points he raises is the amount of PPV’s in such a short amount of time.
(Not even counting the Australia show) Starting with Evolution on October 28, it is soon followed on November 17 with NXT TakeOver: WarGames II and then the next day (November 18) is Survivor Series.
What Is Best For Business
A group of PPV’s all at once, is not “Best for business.”
So, a lack of belts, too many PV’s at once and my third and last point, the embarrassed ‘boyfriend’
Ladies, you know about this situation, guys, you’ve been this boyfriend…
Boyfriend: “Sorry babe, it’s guys only night.”
Girlfriend: “But you promised.”
Boyfriend: “I’ll make it up to you…”
That is the relationship between #TripleH and the Women’s division.
The Women WERE going to compete in the Greatest Royal Rumble, but, all of a sudden it was declared a ‘Guys Only’ event….Triple H said he’d make it up to them and here it is.
That is probably why it seems so ill timed and ill prepared.
I don’t see this going well.
If there had been preparation, more belts on the line more pomp and circumstance that this historic PPV deserves, than I’d be 100% stoked, but, the lack thereof leaves me with a feeling of it being a huge let down.
