Before we really get into it, let’s go over a few things…
Firstly, both Punk and Jackson weigh 170Lbs., which puts them in the Welterweight division of the UFC they are both about 6 feet 2 inches tall and there is a 6-year age difference with Jackson being the junior.
Now, onto the juicy bits.
Jackson made his amateur debut September 12, 2009 at the Lonestar Beatdown 12 in Houston, Texas. He fought Nick Felder and went 3 rounds and won in the third round, at the 3-minute mark. Jackson’s second fight was against Mickey Gall at UFC Fight Night 82 on February 6, 2016. He lost by submission in the first round in 45 seconds.
Now, onto Phil ‘#CMPunk’ Brooks…
Brooks, in his very first fight went against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 on September 10, 2016. Brooks lost by submission in the first round 2 minutes and 15 seconds. So, Mickey Gall beat Jackson and then seven months later beat CM Punk, both by submission, using the Rear-Naked Choke hold and both in the first round.
So, what does this have to do with 225?
Jackson Vs. Punk has all the odds in Punk’s favor, which I don’t understand because of the fact that Jackson has more in ring experience and on top of that, CM Punk has not had all the time he wanted to train due to the trial involving Colt Cabana and Dr. Christopher Amman. The lack of time being able to train on top of the stress involved with ANY court case takes its toll.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Punk not only looked overly stressed but overly tired. Punk also talks about how for the past two weeks, he has been dealing with the court case.
You can watch the CM Punk / Ariel Helwani interview here:
Jackson has had no such distractions for the past two weeks; that is to say he has had more time to dedicate to training.
I have no doubt this will be a great fight.
I am predicting that Jackson will WIN in the last part of the first round or the beginning of the second round. This statement itself breaks my heart as I am a CM Punk guy.
Two years ago, I ordered the PPV just to see Punk fight and then lose in 2 minutes. I will not be ordering it this year; this year I will be watching the highlights on ESPN. If I am wrong, then I am wrong, but, using common sense, Punk is physically and emotionally spent. Jackson is not. The odds are not in Punk’s favor due to those underlying issues.
On the other hand, Jackson could just be a horrid fighter and Punk could take him spent or not.
