June 9th’s UFC 225 may have bookended the career of #CMPunk as far as Dana White is concerned.
In the after fight press conference, in regards to Punk, White said: “No, it should be a wrap. The guy’s 39 years old. We gave him two shots, and he had a lot of heart tonight, and I think he should call it a wrap.”
But in the same breath, White made his frustration with Jackson known, “He’s 0-2 as far as I’m concerned…[Jackson is] a complete f**kin idiot.”
Why would White say this? Well, for those of you who didn’t watch the fight, it was almost as I predicted in my pre-UFC 225 article.
Jackson COULD have taken Punk down easily towards the end of the first round, and then had several opportunities in the second, but, for some reason, he kept hitting Punk with these useless jabs and bolo punches, seemingly like how a cat plays with a dying mouse. Instead of just killing the mouse, the cat just bats it around for a while and then either kills it or it dies on its own.
Jackson seemed to refuse to end it. It was prolonged to the point of a decision had to be made as to who won.
It was NOT a win by TKO or KO, but by decision. That is where White’s frustration came into play and that is the remark he made. It was suggested by a reporter at the press conference that Jackson was trying to milk his time on camera.
So, will Dana White influence Jacksons record to reflect a 0-2 ?
If Punk is done with UFC, what is next for Punk? Punk made it crystal clear earlier on in the week his stance on returning to the squared circle and that stance is an emphatic “NO!”
Even though in some pre-225 interviews he seemed to go from an anything’s possible stance, to probably not to a no means no stance.
Even in his interview with Ariel Helwani, he seemed to have a very maybe/kinda attitude about wrestling, he is clear about NOT returning to the #WWE, but, he seems to infer an opened mind if another promotion made an offer.
What do you think is in the future for CM Punk? Acting? Coaching? Becoming a trainer?
