IT IS FINALLY HERE! The Road to WrestleMania has come to an end and we have arrived in New Orleans for what should be a fantastically fun night of sports entertainment. I talked about how this may be the best WrestleMania in history (on paper) and now we get to take a look at this card in more detail. This WrestleMania is going to be very long, and therefore so will this predictions article so let’s hop right in, shall we?
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale (Pre-Show)
Not a ton to say about this match. We don’t even know who all the participants are going to be. But of the confirmed superstars in the match, my pick to win is Dolph Ziggler. It may be an unpopular decision, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a returning superstar claim victory instead.
WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royale (Pre-Show)
Another historical match here in 2018. We will hopefully see a fun return in this match, similar to the great amount of surprise entrants we saw in the women’s Royal Rumble match in January. However, I believe that it won’t be one of those returning stars winning this one. I see Sonya Deville picking up the win. She has shown much improvement and can further be cemented as the bad ass of ‘Absolution’.
Cruiserweight Championship Match (Pre-Show)
This match is a solid finish to what was a very solid Cruiserweight Championship tournament. We have Cedric Alexander facing off against Mustafa Ali. Ever since Triple H has been put in charge of running 205 Live, the level of entertainment has drastically escalated.
I see Cedric Alexander picking up the win in this one. He’s more of a fan favourite and I believe that he was meant to defeat Enzo before he got in all that trouble.
Smackdown Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match
There are a few matches on the main card of this year’s WrestleMania that are definite candidates to ‘steal the show’, so to speak. This match is absolutely one of them. We’ve seen what sort of matches the New Day and the Usos have put on over the past year, and adding the Bludgeon Brothers into the mix will bring a whole different vibe to the match.
We’ve seen New Day and Usos at the top of the Smackdown Live tag team division for a long time now, and I believe it’s time to introduce a new top team. My pick for this one is the Bludgeon Brothers.
Raw Tag Team Championship Match
With this match, the bigger question is not “who is going to win”, but rather, “who is going to win WITH Braun Strowman”. With that said, as you may have guessed, my pick for this match is Braun Strowman and whoever is tag partner ends up being.
I would anticipate a smaller superstar like the rumored Rey Mysterio. But who I would much rather see make a comeback in this match is Neville. He still hasn’t technically been released from the company yet, and I can’t think of a better way to bring back the ‘King of the Cruiserweights’ than by putting the tag belts on him and Strowman.
United States Championship Fatal-4-Way Match
When this match was simply a triple threat match between Randy Orton, Bobby Roode, and Jinder Mahal, fans didn’t feel drawn towards being excited to watch it. But when they added the Bulgarian Brute, Rusev, a couple weeks ago, fans instantly became excited to watch this match unfold. Coincidentally enough, WrestleMania this year falls on Rusev Day… WHAT ARE THE ODDS?!?
I believe it will be Rusev’s Day at Mania, and he will reclaim the United States title on the grandest stage of them all.
Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat Match
With The Miz having just had the birth of his daughter, I would imagine that he will be taking some much-needed time off, and therefore drop the belt this Sunday. That leaves Seth Rollins and Finn Bálor. Both men showed that they are two of the most skilled wrestlers in the world when they put on a hell of a match during Monday Night Raw this past week.
It’s a tough pick between these two as both are well deserving. A win for Rollins would make him a grand slam champion, but a win for Bálor would be the beginning of the push we all want to see. I’m going to stick with my gut and pick Finn Bálor.
Smackdown Women’s Championship Match
Asuka’s undefeated streak is on the line in what is the biggest match of her entire career. She is matched up against arguably the greatest female wrestler of all time, Charlotte Flair. It would be a shame for Asuka to have this streak for so long, only to lose it at Mania, especially after all the promotion it’s gotten. Charlotte has had her WrestleMania moments already, so my pick for this match is Asuka.
Raw Women’s Championship Match
Where the Smackdown Women’s Championship has more hype around it based on the competitors in the match, I’m actually more excited for this women’s match between Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss. There’s much more backstory behind this match, and after all the things that Bliss has said over the past few weeks, I genuinely want to see Nia demolish her.
The only way Bliss can possibly win this match would be by using heelish cheating tactics, but I don’t think that will be enough. Not against a rage fueled Jax. A championship run for Nia has been long overdue, so that it why my pick for this match is Nia Jax.
Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
The comeback match every single wrestling fan has been dreaming about since that fateful day 4 years ago. The last time WrestleMania was in New Orleans it became YEStleMania when Daniel Bryan successfully defeated Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista in the same night to overcome all the odds and win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in what was one of the biggest payoffs in WWE history.
However, with Shane McMahon involved in this match, I don’t think the two will be victorious. My pick is Owens and Zayn and potentially set up the Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon feud we’ve all been anticipating.
Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle vs. Stephanie McMahon & Triple H
Everyone is clamoring to see how Ronda Rousey will perform in her first ever-wrestling match. Everyone is also (for the most part) anticipating a Rousey and Angle victory. But what these predictions articles are all about is not necessarily getting everything right, but rather, trying to be the biggest smark in wrestling history.
My prediction for this match is Stephanie and Triple H win off of a surprise heel turn from Ronda against Kurt. This of course would make Ronda a corporate superstar and totally swerve everyone watching. Very similar to Stone Cold siding with Vince McMahon at WrestleMania X-Seven.
John Cena vs. The Undertaker
Let’s just assume this match is probably going to happen. However, since we don’t know for sure, I’m not going to spend a lot of time thinking about what my prediction will be. If there is no special stipulation like career vs. career, then my pick is The Undertaker. But then again, who knows… this is John Cena we’re talking about…
WWE Championship Match
The dream match every single person wanted to see at WrestleMania. The Phenomenal AJ Styles defending his belt against the Artist known as Shinsuke Nakamura. If you haven’t seen the match these two had in New Japan then I implore you to check it out before this match on Sunday. These two men know how to work a fantastic match with each other, and I fully expect this to be the technical and hard-hitting barnburner we all want it to be.
My pick for this match is Shinsuke Nakamura. I fully believe it’s the right time to put the belt on him, regardless of how much English he can speak. He’s super talented and needs to proper spotlight to show everyone how great he truly is.
Universal Championship Match
Here we are, the main event of the evening! A rematch of their intense match at WrestleMania 31, this time with no need to worry about Seth Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Roman Reigns will take on Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship in a match many wrestling fans aren’t, but should be looking forward to. At this point, if you’re booing Roman Reigns still, you’re just booing because it’s “cool”.
Roman has shown major improvements on the mic over the past month and will 100% be a better champion than Brock Lesnar. This match is going to be much more entertaining than many people are expecting it to be, and I fully believe fans will leave Mania satisfied with the outcome. My pick, of course with the rumors of Lesnar leaving for UFC is Roman Reigns. Just be happy that we will most likely see the Universal Title on a regular basis.
