Women of WWE: Making History at the Rumble

A huge announcement was made at the end of Monday Night Raw this week, as Stephanie McMahon informed the entire women’s division along with the WWE Universe that on January 28th at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event there will be the first ever women’s royal rumble match. In the past couple years, we’ve seen several first time, historic matches for these incredibly talented, deserving women.

We’ve seen the first ever women’s Hell in a Cell match, we’ve seen the first ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, and there have been a lot more main events involving women on top of that. So it’s about time we see this women’s rumble match take place, and it feels like it’s the perfect time to do so.

With the recent ups and downs of the WWE women’s division, something needed to happen in order to spice things up. Riott Squad and Absolution were definitely attempts at that, but simply have not made the proper impact that was maybe originally planned.

This is not to say that this women’s rumble match is now happening because of the flop that both factions have been, but rather, this could be the special ingredient to hopefully give the women the proper big push they need. It also seriously shakes things up and adds a sense of intrigue and wonder as to how this match is going to play out. But I think we may be in store for some serious surprises.

It’s no secret that a certain former UFC women’s bantamweight champion has been lurking around WWE fans’ minds the past month or so. And with recent news that this individual may be on the verge of signing with the WWE, this match sets up the perfect debut opportunity. Of course I am referring to Ronda Rousey! Her imminent arrival has been one that I have been eagerly awaiting, and I hope to see her show up at the Rumble.

I’m not sure if she’ll necessarily win, but that would be one hell of a statement if she does. Rousey winning would also set up for an unbelievable fantasy WrestleMania championship match, which if you had told me three years ago that it would be happening, I would probably have told you to shut up and walked away.

Regardless, fans should just sit back and enjoy this match for what it will be, and that is, something fresh and new, which is not an everyday occurrence in the WWE, especially nowadays.

I’m also anticipating at least one unexpected return, and although I have a name in mind that I’ve been wanting to come back for years now, I won’t say anything until my Royal Rumble prediction article a month from now…. Or if you really want to know, just tweet me!
