It’s been an interesting build up to this Sunday’s Smackdown Live exclusive Pay-Per-View event, Clash of Champions. As disappointing as Smackdown has been recently, this Sunday’s card holds a lot of potential. Let’s see if we can properly decipher what exactly is going to go down in Boston.
Zack Ryder vs. Mojo Rawley (Pre-Show)
A couple weeks ago during an episode of Smackdown Live, Rob Gronkowski’s best friend, Mojo Rawley turned on his tag team partner Zack Ryder. This heel turn felt like a long time coming as tensions had been growing within the team for several months. With Mojo winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale back at WrestleMania 33, it’s clear that creative has plans for singles success with Rawley. With that in mind, it would be criminal for Ryder to come away with the win. That’s why my pick is Mojo Rawley.
United States Championship Triple Threat Match
Bobby Roode and Baron Corbin started beefing a few weeks ago and it was clear that it was going to eventually lead to a United States Championship match between the two. What doesn’t make sense to me is that Dolph Ziggler was randomly added to the match, making it a triple threat. My only guess for this move is to make Ziggler eat the pinfall to set up a future one-on-one match between Roode and Corbin. I’m taking Bobby Roode pinning Ziggler to win his first Championship on the main roster.
Smackdown Tag Team Championship Fatal-4-Way Match
This match is most likely going to be the one that steals the show! Whenever you have the Usos and the New Day in a match, you know it’s going to be fantastic. But when you add the incredibly talented team of Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable, as well as everyone’s favourite Rusev along with Aiden English, it’s going to be an absolute barnburner. With Rusev and English collecting back-to-back wins in back-to-back weeks, they are my favourites to win this match. Every one will be celebrating Rusev Day!
Bludgeon Brothers vs. Breezango
There is absolutely zero back-story to this match. Add on the fact that “Fashion Files” episodes will now be airing only on wwe.com, it’s clear that the Breezango burial has commenced. With that said, my pick for this match is going to be the Bludgeon Brothers.
Smackdown Women’s Championship Lumber-Jill Match
The Smackdown women’s division has needed something to freshen it up recently, and unfortunately, Riott Squad hasn’t quite done the trick. There will surely be chaos within the Lumber-Jills surrounding the ring during this Championship match between Charlotte Flair and Natalya. Although I have Charlotte winning this match, I don’t believe that will be the end of this segment. With Carmella hanging out at ringside all match long, my bet is that she’ll have her Money in the Bank briefcase hiding somewhere nearby. Therefore, Carmella will be the woman walking out of Boston as champ after a successful cash-in.
WWE Championship Match
This match seems like it will be a do-or-die fight for Jinder Mahal. It’s hard to see Mahal being a driving force in any other feud if he loses this match, whereas AJ Styles will always be over with the WWE Universe because he is truly the best in the world. However, after Jinder Mahal attacked his longtime buddies, the Singh Brothers a couple weeks ago, I believe they will cost Mahal the match, helping Styles retain the belt, and set up a feud between the brothers and Mahal. As much as I enjoyed the surprise of Jinder winning the title back in May of this year, it seems the Modern Day Maharaja’s time has come to an end.
Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn (W/ Two Special Guest Referees)
My first prediction for this match is that it will be the last on the night, ensuring Shane’s involvement in yet another main event. That’s why I chose to write this one last. I am not looking forward to having to watch Shane steal the spotlight from the incredible amount of talent that will be inside the ring! I hate this match’s stipulation as well, that Owens and Zayn will be fired from all of WWE if they lose. This makes the match so predictable and just not fun. So Zayn and Owens are going to walk away with the win. But with who’s help? I’m going to stick with my gut and say Shane turns full heel this Sunday. I’m not excited for it… but we are all just going to have to unwillingly live with the Shane McMahon show for several more weeks to come.
