WWE announced last night though the Extreme Rules Kickoff show they are bringing back King of the Ring.
The quarter finals will be held tonight on RAW and the finals will take place tomorrow LIVE exclusively on the WWE Network. I couldn’t be more ecstatic about this news! This is something I’ve missed very much in WWE, and WWE needed this to return. Back in the 90s and early 2000s, the King of the Ring was a very prestigious on screen title to have and was a big deal, according to many WWE legends, backstage.
It’s no surprise as to why, because it was designed as launching pad for potential future main event talents, and did so with the likes of Bret Hart, Stone Cold, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Edge and Brock Lesnar. The reason I stated WWE needs this, because WWE is missing a real depth main event talent pool. There are plenty of talents who can step up and add to that pool: Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose, Bad News Barrett, Luke Harper, even main roster newcomer, Neville. With KOTR making a return, if handled properly, this could be great news for talent, as this could be their way to break through that proverbial glass ceiling.
The Intercontinental & U.S. titles have recently made a resurgence of importance with John Cena as U.S. champ and holding the U.S. Open Challenge each week, great creative work; but now with Daniel Bryan’s health in question, the Intercontinental title has once again kind of fell off.
KOTR could easily take its place on level of importance, especially if the talent who captures the crown knows how to utilize the title to its fullest. Now it begs the question, who’s going to be the new King? Do you have a preference of who you would like to see wear the crown? Tweet me your opinions on who YOU think should be King of the Ring.
